The Daughters of Macha:
A Seven Part Myth Writing Workshop for Women

The Daughters of Macha Myth Writing Workshop consists of a series of six sequential monthly seminars followed by a weekend myth sharing retreat at The Standing Bear on the beautiful Downeast Maine Coast. Workshops begin in February, March and April of each year. The retreat is held in October, as the brilliance of the fall foliage season is peaking. Each workshop is limited to a maximum of five women. Scarlet's teaching style combines formal and informal methods. You learn to use basic depth shamanic techniques to enter into the magical realms of mythic memory, from which your personal myth gradually emerges. You receive a monthly teleseminar, a workbook with complete instructions for carrying out each month's assignments, and two hours per month of individual one-on-one guidance from Scarlet via email and phone consultations. Tuituion for each Workshop series for 2009 is $2495. Your tuition includes your application fee of $195 and catered meals at the retreat. Other costs include travel and lodging for the retreat.

Workshop Content:

Seminar One: Grieving for What Has Been Lost
In this seminar, you take a deep look at the ways in which patriarchy has silenced the voices of women, in particular, those of the women in your family. Then you begin the process of healing what has been lost by learning to create your personal shamanic grieving song, and using it for healing.
Seminar Two: Discovering Your Personal Feminine Ancestry and Stories
You begin this seminar by interviewing your female relatives to learn what they remember or have heard of your female ancestors. Next you look at your own life story, and begin the process of organizing and writing down those stories that are most meaningful to you.
Seminar Three: Learning to Make Myth
Now you discover the archetypal energies informing your stories, for those energies carry the mythic reality - or truth - of your stories. Once you have discovered the threads of that reality, you begin weaving them into the fabric of your personal myth.
Seminar Four: Identifying Ancestral and Personal Wounds to the Feminine
Each of the five directions within the Depth Shamanic Medicine Wheel Mandala represents an aspect of life experience. They are: Finding your true feminine spirituality; Recovering the magical trust with which you were born; Breaking free of life's many illusions; Dealing with authority figures; and learning to keep your psychospiritual balance as you walk your life's path. Using a special depth shamanic journey method developed by Scarlet, you discover where you stand in these areas of your life, and incorporate what you discover into your personal myth.
Seminar Five: Awakening Feminine Shamanic Archetypes within Your Psyche
You encounter and learn to seek healing from depth shamanic goddess archetypes in each of the five directions. These powerful archetypal energies assist you in recovering from ancestral and personal wounds to the feminine spirit. Your experiences with them will become part of your personal myth.
Seminar Six: Journeying into Your Feminine Ancestral Memory
You learn a special depth shamanic journey method for imaginally visiting your feminine ancestral past, and use it to explore the mythic realities it contains, which you then integrate into your personal myth.
Mythmaking Retreat: Sharing Our Feminine Myths
During this secluded retreat, we shut out the outside world for a long weekend, during which we sing, drum, journey together and share the personal myths we have created, in a supportive feminine atmosphere. (The retreat runs from early Friday evening through Sunday evening.)

Shamanic Foundations Intensive
on the Maine Coast

Offered annually in August at the Center in Surry, this experiential six-day Intensive for women is required of all apprentices. Parts of the Intensive are open to the public as well.  For advanced students, the first two days and evenings are spent gathering shamanic energy and working with advanced shamanic journey and scanning techniques, particular animal spirit medicines and shamanic goddess archetypes.. The remainder of the Intensive focuses on Sea Turtle Medicine, and the depth psychology of the Center position on the Medicine Wheel Mandala. Annual rituals, ceremonies and shamanic experiences deepen for apprentices as they revisit them at more advanced levels each year.

Much of the teaching at the Intensive is done out-of-doors, weather permitting, in sacred sites on the Center's property. All workshops are taught by Center founder and director, Scarlet L. Kinney, MA, an experienced shamanic teacher. Potluck lunches and dinners are shared.

The 2007 Intensive will be held from August 10 - 16. The first three days are for apprentices only. The remaining workshops are open to clients and the general public.  Details to be published as soon as the schedule is completed.

Tuition Schedule
& Payment Methods

The maximum number of students we can accommodate is twelve women, so it's a good idea to apply early. 

The application process consists of completing and submitting an application form, with a nonrefundable application fee of $95. A journey will then be done to determine your readiness for intensive shamanic study. You receive a written transcript of the journey, at which time you are notified of your acceptance status. 

Your 50% registration deposit is due upon notice of acceptance. The balance of your tuition is due by August 1, when registration will close.

Miscellaneous Information
Meals: Most of the meals for the 2007 Intensive will be catered.
Teaching Format: All workshops are taught in a nonhierarchical women's circle format.
Clothing: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You should bring socks, a sweater, a small blanket or wrap and a camp stool or seat if you have difficulty sitting directly on the earth. 
Other Equipment: Please bring sitting cushions for indoor parts of the Intensive if you have them, as we have a limited number of cushions at the Center.
Shamanic Tools: Please bring a drum, rattle and female crystal if you have them. You should also bring a small scarf to cover your eyes while journeying. If you do not have a drum, and want to purchase one, you can do so through the Center. Please allow three weeks for delivery, or it can be shipped directly to the Center for you to pick up there.

Special Workshops & Retreats

The Center also offers a variety of workshops, retreats, drumming circles and shamanic storytelling events for the general public. Such events are designed to make shamanic study and experiences available to those who may not want to become a Certified Depth Shamanic Counselor, but who are  nevertheless interested in learning more about the subject, or in engaging in personal shamanic work.

Depth Shamanic Counselor Certification Program

The Center's Depth Shamanic Counselor Certification Program is a rigorous three or more-year shamanic training program resulting in Certification as a Depth Shamanic Counselor, Kinney Method. Your training consists of a gradually deepening experiential exploration of shamanic realities and interaction with shamanic archetypes. Your experiential studies are enriched by academic study of depth shamanic psychology, counseling methods, and related readings.
